She has been an active volunteer with a children's service organization since 2001, working primarily with tweens. She has earned numerous awards for her reporting on child rearing issues, and frequently lectures on the subject of parenting.

She is a graduate of Mary Washington College, and has received training in numerous specific areas regarding children and tweens. She is the mother of two children.
