Why Tweens Hate Gym

Remember gym class in middle school? You hated it, didn't you? Many tweens do, and for good reason. The uniforms are goofy, tweens are self-conscious about their changing bodies, and for those who aren't athletic, gym class can launch embarrassment to new heights.

I do feel sorry for them. But at most middle schools gym is a required class, so the kids have to get through it. You can help by reminding your child that everybody is a little embarrassed and he's not the only one. Gentle reminders about daily hygiene are a good idea, and so is purchasing a back up uniform -- just in case. If your child doesn't know how to use a combination lock now is a good time to practice since many gym lockers work that way.

Good luck!
