Why Did You Want to Blog About Tweens?

I am an educator, speaker, and principal of a preschool-8th grade independent school in San Francisco. The transition from 4th to 8th grade is a big one and I see a lot of issues that come up for tweens and parents at school. The blog is a great tool to offer advice about how to handle these issues and get the discussion going with parents:

Some recent blogs that concern tweens include:

kids and social media

kids and testing

kids and bullying

How Do You Choose Blog Topics?

I started writing a weekly column for the school newsletter years ago about what was happening inside and outside the classroom with students, teachers and parents.

I also began putting together a book, The Genius of Children, and several parents suggested to me that I turn the newsletter idea into a blog for a more general parent audience, which I just started this year.

The blog is about the delights, mysteries, and challenges of educating our children, and that each child has a unique inner genius that we must help launch into the world. I am an educator and speaker, and principal of an independent school in San Francisco for children in preschool through eighth grade. These stories and reflections are based on my first-hand experiences as an educator over the past 35 years and as the father of four. I hope readers will find these posts entertaining as well as enlightening. I invite readers to share their comments and questions with me as we journey down the road of discovering how to bring out the genius in our children!
