This is probably the last year my youngest child will hand out Valentine's cards at school. I really hate to think about it. Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorite school events, and when the kids were younger I enjoyed helping them make their cards, pick out candy from the drug store and decorate their Valentine boxes or envelopes.
But that's the thing about having your kids grow up on you. You let go and embrace all at the same time. Next year, my youngest may not be busy addressing Valentine's day cards, but she will be busy with something. It might be a band concert, a sports team try-out or some other milestone. Whatever it might be, I'll enjoy it. Because just like the Valentine's Day parties, it won't last forever.
