Getting Tweens to Read Through the Summer

Did you set a reading goal for your children this summer? I didn't, but usually do. Fortunately, I don't have to push my children to read. They'll pick up a book if they're bored or if a book cover catches their attention. So far we've made two trips to the library (not the weekly trips I'd planned in past summers) but I think I can wedge a few more into the calendar before school begins.

How about you? How important is it to keep your kids reading through the summer months? Do you set reading goals, or attend weekly book clubs at your local library?

I’d try getting him a magazine subscription. Does he like sports? You could find a sports magazine that might interest him, or another magazine that might appeal to his interests. Good luck and let us know if it works.
