Have you had enough of American Idol? Can't take another episode of Hannah Montana? You're not alone. Tweens can become pretty attached to their favorite television shows, and if their favorites programs don't do a whole lot for you, that could be a problem.

Family television hour can be saved, however. Resist the temptation to retreat to your bedroom while your children watch their shows in the family room. Television time should be time spent together, and what your children watch always presents opportunities for you to reinforce family values, or find out a little bit about your child's interests or sense of humor.

If your tween's viewing habits need a little variety, there are options. Many reality-based television shows are suitable for the whole family and quite a few of those are actually fun to watch. In addition, tweens may be interested in checking out some of the television shows you watched when you were a kid. If all else fails, it may be time to take a trip to your local video store.

Thank you — I thought I knew every show on TV but I think my kids will like these!

Thank you! I know my kids will like these shows — and I thought we knew ALL the shows on TV but I was wrong. Great finds!
